According to a BoxingScene.com report from Miguel Rivera over the weekend, there appears to be a weight issue that must be worked out before a super fight between Floyd Mayweather and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez can come to fruition.

The WBC and WBA champion at the junior middleweight limit of 154 pounds, Alvarez is coming off of a hard-fought unanimous decision over Austin Trout on April 20th in San Antonio, Texas.

Mayweather (44-0, 26 KO’s) is also coming off of a decision victory, having outclassed Robert Guerrero on May 4th to defend his WBC welterweight title.

Alvarez’s manager Jose “Chepo” Reynoso claims that Mayweather is insisting that Alvarez come down in weight from 154 pounds if the fight were to happen, this despite Floyd also holding a WBA title of his own in the junior middleweight division.

Never one to shy away from the spotlight, outspoken trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. has received his share of attention in recent weeks due to his involvement in his son Floyd’s recent training camp ahead of his May 4th date with Robert Guerrero.

Putting in time at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, Floyd Sr. has served as somewhat of a mentor for this particular clash, offering up insight and advice on select occasions as his son trains ardently for the 44th professional bout of his career.

Mayweather vs. Guerrero takes place on Saturday night from the MGM Grand and one of the big subplots heading into the event is that fact that Mayweather will be fighting on Showtime pay per view for the first time.

Mayweather has noted that he would like to fight five more times after Guerrero, and if successful this weekend in defending his WBC welterweight crown, the focus will surely turn to his next opponent.

It’s fight week in Las Vegas, as the boxing world turns its attention to this weekend’s clash between WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather and interim champion Robert Guerrero.

Mayweather (43-0, 26 KO’s) faces Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) on Saturday night from the MGM Grand in a Showtime pay per view clash that very well may end up being more entertaining than expected.

One of the subplots heading into the fight has been the addition of Mayweather’s father Floyd Sr. into his camp in an effort to add a few more wrinkles to his game.

As he enters his 44th professional bout, there is again a special kind of aura in the camp of Floyd Mayweather.

Readying himself for a May 4th defense of his WBC welterweight crown against interim champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, Mayweather seems as focused as ever heading into what looks to be the final championship run of his career.

That doesn’t mean that some things in camp haven’t changed, however, as some faces have left the scene while others have reemerged.

For the Guerrero fight, Mayweather’s father Floyd Sr. has thus far played an instrumental role in training by simply overseeing his son’s work and offering up his own personal advice and insight while inside of the gym.

For the elder Mayweather, playing such a role is something he doesn’t try to downplay.

The buzz for Floyd Mayweather’s May 4 bout with Robert Guerrero is starting to pick up more and more as the days pass.

Mayweather (43-0, 26 KO’s), the WBC champion at 147 pounds, faces off with Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s), the division’s interim WBC titlist, inside of the MGM Grand in a Showtime pay per view attraction that will serve as one of the year’s biggest events.

There is talk of a fight card taking place one night prior in the city as well, likely at the nearby Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

One fight that was originally discussed for that card would have pitted a pair of undefeated lightweight prospects against one another in ‘Dangerous’ Don Moore (16-0, 10 KO’s) and Haskell ‘Lydell’ Rhodes (14-0, 7 KO’s).

In a fight that has flown under the radar, super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell (20-1, 14 KO’s) will put a 13-month streak of inactivity to rest when he faces off with Ghana’s Michael Gbenga (14-6, 14 KO’s) inside of the Convention Center in McAllen, Texas later this evening.

And while it’s a positive sign to see such a fine talent as Dirrell getting busy again, there were some developments within his recent training camp in Las Vegas that are worth noting.

Outspoken trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. is no longer training Dirrell, as he will instead stay put in Vegas as his charge, undefeated lightweight hopeful Mickey Bey Jr., faces off with Robert Rodriguez inside of the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino tonight.
