On Nov. 23, former lightweight titlist Brandon Rios had a rough go of things when he stepped inside of the Venetian Resort’s Coati Arena in Macau, China to face off with Manny Pacquiao.

Rios was soundly out boxed over the course of twelve rounds by the Filipino icon, as Pacquiao was simply too sharp and active throughout the night as he pulled out a clear unanimous decision verdict.

In the wake of his second consecutive defeat, it remains to be seen how Rios will be guided come 2014.

Speaking with the Kansas native’s trainer Robert Garcia this week in San Antonio, Tex. ahead of the Adrien Broner vs. Marcos Maidana event at the Alamodome, he reflected on the Pacquiao setback.

On Saturday night, Dec. 7, Cuba’s Guillermo Rigondeaux again put on another clinic in outclassing former bantamweight titlist Joseph Agbeko inside of the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Rigondeaux, the sport’s reigning WBA and WBO junior featherweight champion, had his Ghanaian foe completely befuddled on his way to the shutout victory.

And while pure boxing enthusiasts will always be able to appreciate the kind of displays that Rigondeaux is able to produce, former HBO analyst Larry Merchant, who was ringside calling the bout for Top Rank’s international feed, seemed less then enthused.

On Saturday night, WBA/WBO junior featherweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux produced another sterling performance in shutting down former bantamweight titlist Joseph Agbeko over twelve one-sided rounds.

So dominant was Rigondeaux that Agbeko appeared to be lost at times, as he simply couldn’t figure out a way to crack through the defensive wizardry that the Cuban marvel possesses.

In the wake of another virtuoso dispay, Rigondeaux spoke with HBO’s Max Kellerman and confirmed that he has been listening to the critics who claim his lack of excitement hinders his overall marketability as a prizefighter.

2013 didn’t go as expected for former lightweight titlist Brandon Rios.

In March, Rios would lose a razor-thin points victory over twelve rounds in a rematch with Mike Alvarado in Las Vegas.

Given that the fight was wildly entertaining, Rios’ stock didn’t drop too horribly and he would still end up landing a pay per view shot at Filipino star Manny Pacquiao later in the year.

On Nov. 23, in Macau, China, Rios was soundly outpointed by Pacquiao, as he absorbed several flush punches on his way to a unanimous decision loss.

Following his unanimous decision victory over Brandon Rios last month, the reviews for Manny Pacquiao’s return bout were generally positive.

Inside of the Venetian Resort’s Coati Arena in Macau, China, Pacquiao showed himself to be well up to the task, as he tagged Rios all night long while showing enough defensive prowess and footwork to stay out of harm’s way.

The fight was Pacquiao’s first match in eleven months, dating back to his knockout loss this past December to Juan Manuel Marquez.

Catching up with Bob Arum on Monday afternoon, the veteran promoter revealed that a big reason why Pacquiao looked so refreshed was his decision to train in his hometown of General Santos City, Philippines as opposed to staging another camp in Los Angeles.
