Freddie Roach: ‘We’ll be in better shape than him and that’s why we’ll win the fight’

Having spent the past few weeks tucked away in the city of General Santos City in the Philippines, budding lightweight prospect Lydell Rhodes admittedly has had an eye-opening trip.
Rhodes is serving as Manny Pacquiao’s chief sparring partner ahead of the eight-division champion’s April 12 rematch with Tim Bradley and has been enjoying his time both in and out of the PacMan Wild Card Gym.
Rhodes took some time to get some exclusive footage for HustleBoss.com recently when he interviewed Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach about the early days in camp thus far.
“Right now you’re the sole survivor and you’re doing really well,” Roach said, giving credit for Rhodes’ early work with Pacquiao.
“Timing and distance is coming along,” Roach added while continuing to assess his 35-year old charge.
Roach was asked what exactly he plans to do to take away the confidence of Bradley, as the Palm Springs native’s belief in his abilities is as high as ever following his solid victory over Juan Manuel Marquez in October.
“We can talk and bullsh*t, but at the end of the day it’s about who’s the best conditioned fighter the night of the fight,” Roach replied sharply. “Bradley is a workhorse; I know he trains hard. But you know what? My guy works hard also.
“We’ll be in better shape than him and that’s why we’ll win the fight,” said Roach.

Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao is revving up his engines fo his eagerly awaited rematch against World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Timothy Bradley. With just a month and a half to go, Pacman is now focusing on regaining his reputation as one of the boxing worlds most fearsome fighters.
Pacquiao cruised to a decisive victory over Brandon Rios in his last match. Despite the 12-round slugfest going overwhelmingly in Pacquiaos favor, his failure to knock Rios out stirred up doubts about the Fighter of the Decade’s punching power and killer instinct. The Philippine Inquirer reports that for his fight against Bradley, Team Pacquiao plans to lay those doubts to rest.

After months of speculation, the boxing world finally was confirmed with news that Floyd Mayweather will be facing off with Argentina’s Marcos Maidana on May 3.
The announcement came on Monday, the same day that Mayweather celebrated his 37th birthday, and people have since been speculating about what the pay per view showdown means to the sport’s premier fighter.
Catching up with Mayweather’s longtime trainer and former two-division world champion Roger inside of the Mayweather Boxing Club recently, he seemed to feel that the public had a say in Maidana landing the match over Britain’s Amir Khan.
“I think that’s what the people wanted to see,” Roger explained. “People wanted to see what he could do with Maidana so I guess we’re going to find out.”
Given his relentless and pressing style, Maidana will figure to bring some sort of excitement into the ring with him.
But at the end of the day, Roger feels that Floyd is simply on another level, and has curiosity as to whether Maidana will even finish the match.
“Too much skill for him,” said Roger. “I think he’ll probably stop him. It probably aint going to be early but I believe he’ll stop him though.”
