Freddie and Manny...

During a recent swing through the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, I caught up with trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. to follow up on a BoxingScene.com report from Ryan Burton about the trainer’s possible involvement in a new boxing reality series that will likely be launching early next year.

When asked about what his role on the new series might pertain, Mayweather Sr. was quite vague, but did hint that he may find himself competing against other well-known trainers in the sport.

The concept sounds similar to the “Contender” series that launched on NBC in 2005, and while discussing the new project, Mayweather Sr. couldn’t help but praise his own abilities as a teacher.

Then, out of nowhere, Mayweather Sr. took a big swipe at another one of today’s more revered trainers.

Later tonight, inside of the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, one of this generation’s finest pugilists will again take center stage as Bernard Hopkins will look for a successful defense of his WBC light heavyweight title against Germany’s Karo Murat.

The 48-year old Hopkins continues to impress despite his advanced age and he is still looking for the most lucrative and eye-catching fights that could round out his Hall of Fame career.

Last month, while inside of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas following Floyd Mayweather’s victory over Saul Alvarez, Hopkins even insisted that he would be willing to come down to 160 pounds for a future fight with Mayweather next year.

During a recent swing through the Mayweather Boxing Club, I attempted to speak with Floyd Mayweather Sr. about Hopkins’ fight with Murat, but all the outspoken trainer could seem to focus on was Hopkins’ interest in a fight with his son.

In the wake of his split-decision victory over Juan Manuel Marquez this past weekend in Las Vegas, WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley has seemed to gain a newfound respect from fans, the media, and his peers.

Coming off of a brutal unanimous decision win over Ruslan Provodnikov this past March, a fight in which Bradley admittedly exchanged too much for his liking, Tim changed his tactics up by boxing a determined and disciplined fight against Marquez.

And despite the cries of robbery coming from Juan and his team afterwards, the general consensus was that Bradley had boxed well enough and nullified Marquez’s offense to the point where he deserved to be the victor.

Sharing his thoughts on the fight, outspoken trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. seemed baffled as to how judge Glenn Feldman had the contest 115-113 in favor of Marquez.
