Shawn Porter on Amir Khan: ‘We’ve seen a lot of flaws in his boxing skills that we know Floyd will expose’

Check the video below for all of Shawn Porter’s thoughts on Floyd Mayweather vs. Amir Khan

Article and photo courtesy of Chris Robinson (www.HustleBoss.com)

It’s hard to come across anyone in the sport of boxing, from the champion to novice level, who is as humble as newly-crowned IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter.

The Akron, Ohio native is never one to truly take aim at other fighters in the sport and that was pretty much the case when Porter shared his view on all of the talk of British star Amir Khan being in the running to face off with Floyd Mayweather next year.

“I think Amir is a good fighter,” Porter opened up during a recent conversation. “I think he has what it takes. We’ll see. We probably thought that about the last two or three guys Mayweather has fought.

“Mayweather is just an unbelievable athlete, unbelievable boxer,” Porter added. “And one of the greatest of all time.”

Just as quickly, however, Porter did point out some weaknesses in Khan that he sees.

“I think he’s a great fighter, great athlete,” Porter said of Khan. “But at the same time I think we’ve seen a lot of flaws in his boxing skills that we know Floyd will expose.”

Asked if he is surprised that Mayweather is still at the top of his game at 36 years old, Porter couldn’t help but to give Floyd his just due.

“I am, but when you’re blessed, you’re blessed,” Ported stated. “Simple as that.”

Abel Sanchez feels that Marcos Maidana and Danny Garcia are more deserving of a crack at Mayweather than Amir Khan is

Is Marcos Maidana more deserving of a Floyd Mayweather shot than Amir Khan?

Article and photo courtesy of Chris Robinson (www.HustleBoss.com)

A swing through the Summit Gym in Big Bear, Calif. will lead you to cross paths with trainer Abel Sanchez.

Hosting a bevy of fighters inside of his facility, most notably WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, Sanchez makes for a great interview because of his straightforwardness and insight in the sport.

Knowing that I would get an honest response, I asked Sanchez for his thoughts on the buzz about Amir Khan possibly landing a shot at the game’s best, Floyd Mayweather, this coming May.

“First of all I don’t think Amir Khan deserves it,” Sanchez said candidly of the British star. “I think a guy like [Marcos] Maidana, a guy like [Danny] Garcia, deserves it more. I think Amir Khan hasn’t done enough to merit that.”

Sanchez can easily see why Khan may be next in line, given his star appeal.

“Absolutely, it’s a money thing,” Sanchez explained. “It’s a business thing, it’s a network thing. Obviously Amir Khan has a big name and talks himself into some good fights. He may not be as deserving but he may be the biggest money fight for Floyd.”

Sanchez favors Mayweather heavily if the fight were to come off and reveals what he sees in today’s version of Floyd, who at age 36 is looking just as dominant as ever with commanding victories over Robert Guerrero and Saul Alvarez this year.

“Greatness,” said Sanchez. “You’re kidding me. In our era, that’s the best pound-for-pound fighter right now. Until somebody controls him and destroys his type of defense, like Maidana did to Broner, that’s when we are going to have to question it. But right now he’s the best.”

Naazim Richardson feels that Danny Garcia and Tim Bradley are two fighters who have the tools to possibly upset Mayweather

Garcia_vs_Matthysse_fukuda

By Chris Robinson

As the days go by, we continue to wait for word on Floyd Mayweather’s next ring opponent.

At the moment there seems to be a very strong chance that Mayweather will end up facing off with British star Amir Khan on May 3 from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

And while Khan surely serves as one of the biggest names for Mayweather at the moment, North Philadelphia’s Naazim Richardson has two other prizefighters in mind who could possibly trouble, and maybe even defeat Mayweather.

“Tim [Bradley] and Danny Garcia are capable of beating anybody in boxing,” The Zen-like trainer told me recently when discussing the WBO welterweight titlist and the WBA/WBC junior welterweight champion.

“Tim and Danny Garcia are young versions of a Bernard Hopkins,” Richardson added. “You can never gauge them. You can’t watch film on them. You can’t anticipate with them. Because they are super over-achievers. What Bernard Hopkins was. What Joe Frazier was.”

And while Richardson isn’t bold enough to side with either man against Mayweather, he wouldn’t be stunned if either pulled an upset.

“If Tim Bradley or Danny Garcia were to beat Floyd Mayweather I would not be shocked,” Richardson stated. “Would you bet against Floyd? F*ck no. The only person you’re supposed to bet against Floyd with is Wladimir Klitschko on a good day.”

It’s obvious in speaking with Richardson just how much respect he has towards the Grand Rapids native, however.

“Floyd is one of them fighters now who you aren’t supposed to bet against until you see him lose,” Richardson explained. “He’s that special of a kid. But Tim or Danny getting past him would not shock me at all.”

TO LISTEN TO the full interview with Richardson, where he recounts knowing Garcia and Bradley as amateurs while also pondering a Garcis vs. Bradley matchup, please check below…
