On Saturday night, inside of the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, welterweight Keith Thurman made another step towards contender status in halting Argentina’s Diego Chaves in the tenth round.
It wasn’t an easy task for Thurman (21-0, 19 KO’s), as Chaves (22-1, 18 KO’s) came out strong in the early rounds as a bit of firefight broke out.
To his credit, Thurman kept his composure and slowly began building momentum.
A left hook to the body would drop Chaves in the ninth and one round later an onslaught of punches would put him down for the count.

In an excellent match, Sinaloa, Mexico native Jesus Soto Karass registered perhaps the biggest victory over his career in stopping former world champion Andre Berto in the 12th and final round of their match inside the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Pressing the action early, Karass was in full control against Berto, who fought bravely in the face of a right shoulder injury that visibly affected him.
Karass was dropped with a left to the body in the eleventh round but returned the favor to Berto the following frame with a picturesque counter left of his own.

On Saturday night, Showtime Championship Boxing delivered an action-packed triple header filled with back-and-forth action, knockdowns, and plenty of high drama.
In the evening’s main event, Sinaloa’s Jesus Soto Karass scored a mild upset with a 12th round TKO victory over former welterweight titlist Andre Berto.
It was another disappointing defeat for Berto, who is just 1-3 in his last four fights, dating back to his high-pitched brawl with Victor Ortiz in April of 2011.
Berto appeared to injure his right shoulder around the fourth round, yet he fought on valiantly as the action wore on, electing to utilize his left hand as best he could.
And despite scoring a knockdown in the eleventh round with a left to Karass’ body, Berto himself was floored with a counter left in the final round, as referee Jon Schorle chose to call a halt to the action.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. has been a very busy man this year.
On top of reconnecting with his son Floyd as both a trainer and father, the elder Mayweather runs a busy schedule with a core group of professional fighters that consists of talented lightweights Mickey Bey and Lydell Rhodes, recently-debuted cruiserweight prospect Andrew Tabiti, and aspiring female prospect Maricela Cornejo.
With his son having beat Robert Guerrero convincingly this past May over twelve rounds, Mayweather Sr. now finds himself helping Floyd prepare for a huge clash with Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who he meets on Showtime pay per view on September 14th at the MGM Grand.
With so much of his time and thought devoted to his role as a trainer, Mayweather Sr. admits that it’s been hard to keep track of anything else boxing-related outside of his duties in the gym.
“I try to, but over these last months I’ve been very busy, man,” Mayweather Sr. stated. “I’ve moving here, I’m going there. A lot of things, man. It’s been kind of difficult for me to keep my eyes on things. I try my best to look at as much boxing as I can.”
On November 23rd, a welterweight clash will take place in Macau, China as former titlists Brandon Rios and Manny Pacquiao face off.
