Having a conversation with three-division world champion Adrien Broner can be a trying process.
To say that the Cincinnati native is a little brash would be an understatement, and the fact that Broner seems to find his own kind of humor in even the most straightforward of subjects means you might not always get the answers you want from him.
Last month in Indio, Calif., the dialogue with the 24-year old champion was deeper than usual, as our conversation covered such topics as a possible bout with Marcos Maidana, the Floyd Mayweather-Saul Alvarez event, his love for his kids, cherishing the spotlight, and dealing with critics.
Having temporarily relocated to Las Vegas as he dives back into training, with a Maidana clash likely on his horizon, Broner has again been brief and whimsical when interviewed.
Asked for his take on the Nov. 23 Manny Pacquiao-Brandon Rios pay per view event set to take place in Macau, China, Broner seemed to have no recollection of the eight-division champion from the Philippines or his foe.

As reported by HustleBoss.com/BoxingScene.com recently, Cincinnati-based trainer Mike Stafford is entertaining the idea of training his core group of fighters, which includes three-division world champion Adrien Broner, temporarily in Las Vegas within the coming weeks.
Stafford will arrive to Vegas next week, as two of his fighters, Jamel Herring and Robert Easter Jr., were lined up with bouts at the MGM Grand on Sept. 12, but it turns out that Broner is already in the city, as he was spotted getting a workout inside of the Mayweather Boxing Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Broner’s regimen wasn’t particularly grueling on this day, but it was interesting to see him on the pads with former heavyweight contender Nate Jones and later with Roger Mayweather.
Working together for the first time, Mayweather and Broner paced their routine on the mitts, with Roger giving pointers along the way.

Trainer Mike Stafford on Adrien Broner’s ascension towards stardom, the possibility of a Vegas training camp, and an eventual Mayweather fight

Very few prizefighters in boxing have come along and taken the sport by storm in the way that three-division world champion Adrien Broner has over the past few years.
Possessing qualities that are both charismatic and outlandish, Broner is the type of guy you seem to either love or hate. But at the end of the day, the 23-year old Cincinnati native seems to find a way to keep spotlight shining upon him.
The latest news surrounding Broner is that of a possible clash with Argentina’s Marcos Maidana, who he likely will meet this November in Las Vegas in his first pay per view showcase. It’s a risky matchup for the ultra-confident Broner, but the type of fight that will continue his climb up boxing’s ladder if successful.
Wanting a better sense of Broner as a fighter and person, I reached out to his longtime trainer Mike Stafford to discuss a few topics related to his charge.
In this one on one, Stafford discusses Broner’s recent razor-thin victory over Paulie Malignaggi in Brooklyn, gives his thoughts on the feedback from critics, reveals whether they might train in Las Vegas this coming camp, and shares his outlook on a possible meeting between his fighter and pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather in the future.

Although nothing is official as of this moment, the wheels appear to be in motion for an interesting welterweight title clash between newly-crowned WBA champion Adrien Broner and former junior welterweight titlist Marcos Maidana.
Each man is coming off of a victory this past June, as Maidana stopped Josesito Lopez in a thriller on June 8 in Carson, Calif. while Broner edged out former champion Paulie Malignaggi two weeks later in Brooklyn.
Catching up with Broner recently, the brash 24-year old seemed to dismiss Maidana right off the bat.
“Anybody who grabs that rope to hang themselves,” said Broner of a possible duel with the Argentinean.
“Numbers speak for themselves,” Broner continued. “Check my views and check his views.”

Larry Merchant is surprised that Adrien Broner wasn’t ‘more explosive’ against Paulie Malignaggi

In a fight that was a little tougher than most expected, Adrien Broner won a split-decision over Paulie Malignaggi inside of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday night, becoming successful in his bid to become a three-division world champion at the age of 23.
Due to a spirited effort from Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KO’s), who never seemed to stop moving and punching in bunches despite his lack of pop, Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) appeared to be deadlocked with the Brooklyn native over the first half of the fight. As the action wore on, Broner’s precise and more powerful punches began to find their mark as he marched towards victory.
Shortly after the dust had settled from Broner’s latest triumph, longtime HBO analyst Larry Merchant, never one to hold back his thoughts, weighed in and admitted he was a bit taken aback by how the clash played out.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. can’t see Paulie Malignaggi doing ‘too much of anything’ with Adrien Broner

Later tonight, inside of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York in Showtime-televised attraction, WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) will look to defend his crown against one of the flashiest and brashest faces in the sport when he tangles with Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s).
Despite moving up two weight classes for the fight, Broner, a former champion at 130 and 135 pounds, is an overwhelming favorite heading into the match due to various factors.
Asked for his assessment of the contest, renowned trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. seemed to agree with the odds.
“I can’t see Paulie Malignaggi doing too much of anything,” Mayweather told me recently. “He’s going to go in there [and] the only thing I could see him doing, I could see him running. I could see him running for a while, and that’s about it.”
