On Saturday night, rising prospect-turned-contender Teofimo Lopez reminded everyone why he’s one of the emerging forces of the lightweight division with a brutal seventh round knockout over former two-time title challenger Diego Magdaleno.

Lopez (12-0, 10 KO’s) delivered a pair of left hooks in the aforementioned seventh that put the courageous Magdaleno (31-3, 13 KO’s) down and out, as the referee didn’t need to bother to count.

On Saturday night, inside of The Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, TX, Sergey Kovalev gained a level of revenge vs. Eleider Alvarez, winning a clear unanimous decision over 12 rounds to recapture the WBO light heavyweight title. The bout aired on the ESPN+ streaming app as the boxing world saw Kovalev, 35, become a three-time champion at 175 pounds. Scores were 120-108 and 116-112 twice.

Alvarez (24-1, 12 KOs) was coming off of a thrilling seventh round knockout over Kovalev just six months prior, a fight in which he rocked and dropped the Russian three times before finishing the contest. But, to the credit of Kovalev (33-3-1, 28 KO’s), he was able to turn the rematch in his favor and box his way towards victory.

What Are the Odds We See Floyd Mayweather Return to Face Manny Pacquiao in 2019?

Manny Pacquiao vs Adrien Broner

By Chris Robinson

This past weekend, inside of the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV, eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao successfully defended his version of the WBA welterweight title with a dominating 12-round unanimous decision over former champion Adrien Broner.

Pacquiao (61-7-2, 39 KO’s) was simply too accurate, too busy, and too determined for the talented Broner (33-4-1, 24 KO’s), who was held to throwing under 300 total punches the entire duration of the bout. This win comes on the heels of Pacquiao’s impressive drubbing of Argentina’s Lucas Matthysse, who he dropped three times and stopped in the seventh round this past July.

Manny Pacquiao vs Adrien Broner

by: Dennis Guillermo

Boxing’s only eight-division world champion, Manny Pacquiao (61-7-2, 39 KOs) successfully defended his WBA welterweight crown against Adrien Broner (33-4-1, 24 KOs) Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in front of a sold out pro-Pacquiao crowd in his return to Las Vegas after more than a two-year absence.

The 40-year-old fighting senator from the Philippines turned back the clock as he overwhelmed the much-younger 29-year-old Broner with his signature relentless style right from the opening up to the final bell en route to a unanimous decision win. The three judges scored it ringside 117-111 and 116-112 twice. On my most generous night, I’d give Broner one round, two at the most as he simply didn’t do enough to convincingly win any round as evidenced by Compubox numbers.

Adrien “The Problem” Broner definitely had some problems with some people heading into Wednesday’s final press conference for his much-anticipated bout with Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Arena this weekend.

“I’m pissed off, for real. Coming here doing this press conference in this little ass room,” Broner announced to the media gathered at the David Copperfield Theater. “They didn’t spend money on our shit like our fight ain’t nothin. I see what they’re trying to say, but they won’t do this shit anymore after I win this fight,” Broner added.

For Pacquiao, now 40 years old and the holder of one of the WBA welterweight titles, a fight with Broner is something he doesn’t take lightly.

Pacquiao: In Case You Forgot

Like a blur, a flurry of five, six, eight-punch combinations. Most have been given fair warning, and blokes like Ricky Hatton even swore he had studied and knew what was coming. “Right hook, roll under,” The Hitman waxed philosophical. Fighters like him should be scaring the shit out of you. Most meteors like the one tattooed on his left forearm will when it connects. But then he flashes his smile and swindles you with his humility. Just enough to make you think he can’t be that vicious in the ring.

Until boom!

Millions of pupils dilate with fatal anticipation. Another legendary boxer’s ass kisses the canvas. Barrera, Morales, Mosley, Bradley, Cotto, and yes Hatton too. Not sure what happened to what he studied regarding that right hook and roll under, but he ate a left cross and graduated in round 2. Last names of first ballot Hall of Famers and some of the greatest pugilists in history. Victims. Or as Shaq likes to call em, “barbecue chicken.”

On Saturday night, inside of the O2 Arena in London, heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte scored a brutal 11th round knockout over rugged Dereck Chisora in a rematch of their 2016 thriller. A highlight reel left hook from Whyte ended what was a competitive matchup beforehand, and left Chisora floored and all but out.

Whyte (25-1, 18 KO’s) was ranked #1 by the WBC and WBO heading into the matchup, and now looks to have an inside track towards a rematch with IBF/WBA/WBO champion Anthony Joshua. Chisora (29-9, 21 KOs) was deducted two points in the contest, one for a low blow in the eighth and later for an elbow in the 11th, yet was ahead on two scorecards (95-94) at the time of the stoppage.

By Chris Robinson

This Friday night, inside of the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, TX, once-beaten supermiddleweight contender Jesse “Hollywood” Hart will look for revenge vs. the division’s WBO champion, Gilberto “Zuro” Ramirez.

In September of last year, Ramirez (38-0, 25 KO’s) dropped Hart in the first round and went on to win a unanimous decision despite the Philadelphia fighter storming back to make things competitive. Hart knows he is likely going to need a career-defining performance to turn the tables and that’s what he is banking on.

Once again, for the third time this year, I find myself in the country of Thailand, getting a bit lost in all that the beautiful land has to offer. But, unlike my first two trips where I stayed in and frequented many areas of Bangkok, I decided to move up north this trip to the small town of Pai.

One of my main goals in the early months up here in Pai, before I likely again head back to Bangkok to finish my trip, was to get familiar with the Charn Chai Muay Thai Gym. Ran by former Lumpinee and Rajadamnern #1 ranked “Bee” Monkoldej Sitthepitak, the gym has a very welcoming atmosphere that suits both professionals and beginners. But make no mistake about it, the work is very intense and you have to be committed to get through each session.

When we first crossed paths with prospect Darren Cunningham III a few years back, he had yet to make his professional debut in the sport. Fast forward to today, and Cunningham is now officially a professional prospect, carrying a 7-0 record with three knockouts in the junior featherweight division.

Cunningham is actually promoted by his friend and fellow fighter Devin Haney (20-0, 13 KO’s), and last saw action this past September 28 in Temecula, CA, as he won a decision over Saul Eduardo Hernandez. In the main event of that evening, Haney won a 12-round unanimous decision over former world title challenger Juan Carlos Burgos.
