As he heads into his Nov. 23 showdown with Brandon Rios, Manny Pacquiao has his share of doubters.

After all, it was this past December when the Filipino icon was knocked out cold by a counter right hand from his rival Juan Manuel Marquez in the sixth round of their fourth encounter.

That loss has added a certain kind of intrigue to the Rios clash and one of Pacquiao’s former sparring partners, welterweight contender Shawn Porter, recently shared his thoughts on the big fight.

“I think a lot of people may be questioning his abilities now,” Porter stated recently. “Aside from everything he’s got going on in the Philippines and his last experience, I think he’s going to be able to bring the Manny Pacquiao that we’ve seen in the past to this fight with Brandon Rios.”

It’s hard to believe that the Manny Pacquiao-Brandon Rios fight was officially announced in early May, over six months ago from today.

It’s been a long and winding camp for Rios, who kicked off a light version of his training regimen in early July before turning up the heat come August.

Recent weeks inside of the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy have seen Rios go out all in sparring as the intensity continued to build, with much of the hard work now in his rearview.

The Kansas-born brawler and his team, led by trainer Robert Garcia, will be leaving America for Macau this Tuesday and for Rios, the trip can’t come soon enough.

When we last spoke with trainer Marvin Somodio, he was soaking up the aftermath that came from Ruslan Provodnikov’s rousing victory over Mike Alvarado inside of the 1STBANK Center in Denver, Colo.

While the sight of Provodnikov hammering Alvarado into submission was one of extreme gratification for Somodio, he had little time to celebrate, as he flew back to his home base of Los Angeles right after to pack and embark on another trek to Manila, Philippines.

Somodio now finds himself entrenched in the training camp of eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao in General Santos City, for whom he works as an assistant under head trainer Freddie Roach.

Speaking exclusively to HustleBoss.com, Somodio, a native of the province of Iloilo, insists that coming back to the Philippines is special for a few reasons.

During a recent swing through Oxnard, Calif., I was able to catch up with former lightweight prospect David Rodela.

Having recently announced his retirement from boxing, Rodela’s modest 16-9-3 record with seven knockouts isn’t a true testament to his abilities as a fighter or the kind of journey that the sport took him on.

Now serving as the head boxing coach at the Oxnard PAL, Rodela seems happy with life, noting that he has been putting his main focus into working and spending time with his family.

Rodela carved out a respectable name for himself as one of the game’s top sparring partners, from his work with the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan, Antonio Margarito, and countless others.

With Pacquiao inching closer towards a Nov. 23 showdown with Brandon Rios, who he faces on HBO pay per view in Macau, China, I asked Rodela for his thoughts on the match.

As we officially enter the month of November, the buzz continues to build for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios pay per view showdown later this month.

In a little over three weeks from now, Pacquiao will lock horns with Rios inside of the Venetian Resort in Macau, China in a fight that promises to deliver its share of excitement.

Rios has been preparing for the contest inside of his trainer Robert Garcia’s personal facility in Oxnard, Calif. and the spirits in camp are extremely high.

On most given days during the week, former world champion Marcos Maidana will work out inside of the gym a few hours before Rios, sometimes sticking around to check out his stable mate’s work.

Gennady Golovkin is unsure if Manny Pacquiao is the same fighter but hints he may beat Rios in the same fashion he did Margarito

Over the past year, Kazakhstan native Gennady Golovkin has established himself as one of the sport’s pure punchers while also showing himself to be a true gentleman outside of the ropes.

As punishing of a fighter as there seems to be on today’s landscape, Golovkin comes across as completely modest once one takes the time to get to know him.

Set to defend his WBA middleweight title against Curtis Stevens on Nov. 2 in an HBO showdown from the Theatre at Madison Square Garden, Golovkin had spent  nearly the past two months tucked away in the mountains of Big Bear, Calif. as he prepared for the match.

During that time, I was able to gather Golovkin’s thoughts on another significant fight taking place three weeks after his; the Manny Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios clash.

As we head into the final stretch of fights in 2013, the last pay per view event to close out the year will be Manny Pacquiao’s return against all-action Brandon Rios, who he is set to meet on Nov. 23 in Macau, China in an HBO pay per view clash.

For some, the biggest intrigue heading into the match is what version of Pacquiao we are going to see.

This past December, the Filipino star was knocked out in brutal fashion, as he was left lying unconscious after taking a counter right hand from Juan Manuel Marquez in the sixth round of their fourth encounter.

Nearing 35 years old and coming off of such a devastating loss, it’s understandable why Pacquiao may have some doubters these days.

When asked about the matchup with Rios, veteran trainer Miguel Diaz, who has worked Pacquiao’s corner as a cut man for the past nine fights, seems to feel his charge will bounce back impressively next month.
