VANES

In an excellent battle of junior middleweight contenders, Vanes Martirosyan came on strong in the second half of his match vs. Willie Nelson to march on towards a unanimous decision win. Scores of 97-93 twice and 96-94 were read in the Glendale residen’ts favor.

It was far from easy for Martirosyan, who seemed caught off guard by the lanky Nelson early on. Martirosyan would eventually settle down and began turning the tide of the fight in the third. There were several tense exchanges on the inside and the momentum seemed to change hands on several occasions.

Martirosyan had success ripping uppercuts in close and was especially effective with his right hands in the closing rounds. Martirosyan now goes to 35-1-1 with 21 knockouts while Nelson drops to 23-2-1 with 13 knockouts.

On September 27th, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson defeated Chris Cariaso by a Kimura in the second round. Johnson’s win begs the question ‘Who’s next?’

Since the UFC created the Flyweight division there has never been a champion outside of Mighty Mouse. In 2012, the UFC conducted a tournament to decide who would be the first Flyweight division champion. Johnson fought Ian McCall twice for the title since the first fight ended in a majority draw. Johnson won in a unanimous decision in the rematch to become the first Flyweight champion and has never looked back.

A few weeks removed from his 47th victory as a professional, Floyd Mayweather has been enjoying some much deserved down time by jet setting the globe over, including recent stops in Turkey, Paris, and London, England.

Mayweather won a 12-round unanimous decision over Marcos Maidana in their rematch inside of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Sep. 13 and he is slated to return in May.

And while Floyd continues to enjoy himself abroad, back in his home base of Vegas, people have begun to speculate his ring return.
