I must admit, there is something about Veganism that is becoming very intriguing to me.

Veganism is essentially the practice of not eating any meats, fish, or poultry, as well as abstaining from other animal products and bi-products such as eggs, honey, and other dairy products. While I used to think that it would be difficult for one to take in the Vegan lifestyle, I’ve come to appreciate just how appealing and delicious the food can be.

Amidst the craze of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin showdown this past week in Las Vegas, we were able to again catch up with undefeated lightweight prospect Devin “The Dream” Haney, as he continues to advance in his young career. This was some very good work to take in, as we had been advised that the Montgomery brothers from Macon, Ga., were in town and that it was going to be 22-year old Maliek Montgomery who was going to be working with Devin.

Haney, still just 18 years of age at 16-0 with 11 knockouts, and Montgomery, a 1-0 junior lightweight prospect, engaged in seven rounds of heated action that soon won’t be forgotten from our end. Haney is a sharp boxer-puncher with all kinds of ability, while Montgomery presented a different kind of foe, as his onrushing style led to several heated exchanges.

This past Satuday night, Sep. 16, inside of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., IBF/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin retained his titles with a hard-fought and controversial split-draw with former two-division world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

It was an action-packed showdown pitting the strength, power, and disciplined attack of Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KO’s) against the savvy and cunning Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KO’s), who boxed, moved, and countered more than we have ever seen him. After twelve rounds, scores of 118-110 for Canelo, 115-113 for Golovkin, and 114-114 saw the match end in a split-draw, with both men believing they have done enough to secure the victory.

Moments ago, inside of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., undefeated featherweight contender Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz remained undefeated with a twelve-round unanimous decision victory over late replacement Rafael Rivera, who was filling in for undefeated Jorge Lara.

Diaz (25-0, 13 KO’s) is hoping to land a crack at WBC champion Gary Russell Jr., and he did what was needed from his end to handily defeat Rivera (25-1-2, 16 KO’s), over twelve rounds. Shortly after the final bell, scores of 120-108 and 119-109 twice were read in Diaz’s favor, as he very well could be facing Russell in the near future.

The action keeps rolling along in Las Vegas inside of the T-Mobile Arena as we await the Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin showdown.

On the undercard, in a battle of unbeaten, Diego De La Hoya handed former bantamweight champion Randy Caballero his first defeat. De La Hoya (20-0, 9 KO’s) was a little sharper and busier than Caballero (24-1, 13 KO’s), capturing a unanimous decision over ten rounds via scorecards of 100-90 and 98-92 twice.

In a fight that may have been much tougher than expected, Chattanooga, Tenn. native Ryan Martin captured a ten-round split-decision over a very tough Francisco Rojo inside of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

Martin (20-0, 11 KO’s) wasn’t able to capture the victory in easy fashion, however, as Rojo (20-3, 11 KO’s) kept pressure on throughout the fight. It was the sharp-punching of Martin vs. the aggression of Rojo.

On Saturday night, Sep. 16, undefeated female flyweight Marlen Esparza moved to 3-0 with a six-round unanimous decision over Colorado’s Tania Cosme inside of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

Esparza, originally from Houston, Tex., is a former Olympian and is held in high regard by those in the sport. She won on all cards by scores of 60-54.

In a wild, back-and-forth fight from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev., David Benavidez became boxing’s youngest world champion at 20 years of age with a split-decision victory over rugged contender Ronald Gavril from Romania.

It was a very fast-paced affair from the start, with Gavril’s accuracy allowing him to dictate the pace at times while Benavidez’s strength, size, and power allowed him to have success of his own. Gavril came on very strong in the middle of the fight, only to see Benavidez turn up the tempo in the championship rounds.

This weekend, in Carson, Calif., undefeated welterweight prospect Nick Frese (5-0, 5 KO’s) will return to the ring to face off with Nam Phan (3-2-1, 2 KO’s) inside of the StubHub Center. The bout will take place as an undercard attraction to the HBO triple header featuring Sor Rungvisai vs. Roman Gonzalez II as the headliner.

Frese, 23, has been working ardently both in Las Vegas while training with Cuban trainer Ismael Salas, as well as in his hometown of Thailand. Frese has tremendous talent and is a prospect worth keeping an eye on.
