Earlier today, inside of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, interim WBC junior welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s) weighed in ahead of his clash with Mike Dallas Jr. (19-2-1, 8 KO’s).
Matthysse came in at 138.5 pounds while Dallas Jr. was a pound heavier at 139.5 pounds. The two men meet in the main event of a Showtime-televised tripleheader.
Matthysse has been clamoring for a clash with WBA/WBC junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia, but he will now have to settle for a dance with Dallas, who is trained by the highly-regarded Virgil Hunter.
As for Garcia, he is lined up for a Feb. 9 meeting with former two-division champion Zab Judah, who was present inside of the building for today’s weigh-in.
Other notables in attendance included WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi and longtime Showtime analyst Al Bernstein.
If Matthysse can’t get lined up with a fight against Garcia, don’t be surprised if he ends up faces his Argentinean countryman Marcos Maidana sometime in 2013.
