Dmitry Bivol became the undisputed light heavyweight world champion on Saturday, February 22, with a majority decision victory over Artur Beterbiev at ANB Arena in Riyadh.
Just four months after a narrow defeat to Beterbiev, Bivol (24-1, 12 KOs) avenged his only loss with a strategic and aggressive performance, particularly excelling in the mid-to-late rounds.
Beterbiev (21-1, 20 KOs) started strong, delivering punishing body shots that visibly affected Bivol during the third and fourth rounds.
The 40-year-old continued to press in the fifth and sixth rounds, landing his trademark powerful punches.
However, Bivol shifted momentum in the latter half of the fight. Rounds seven and eight showcased his classic style as he adeptly maneuvered in and out of range, utilizing his jab and delivering precise counter punches.
His confidence surged in rounds nine and ten, making him a challenging target for Beterbiev.

In the championship rounds, Beterbiev sensed the fight slipping away and fought fiercely, notably attacking Bivol in the twelfth round.
Despite winning that round on all three scorecards, it was too late to change the outcome.
Bivol landed 170 out of 547 (31.1%) punches while Beterbiev was busier and less accurate, connecting on 121 out of 688 (17.6%) blows.
One judge scored the bout 114-114, which was overruled by cards of 116-112 and 115-113 in favor of Bivol.
“I’m just so happy,” Bivol said after the fight. “I went through a lot during the last years… I was better. I was pushing myself more. I was more confident and lighter.”
Beterbiev commented on the decision post-fight.
“I don’t want to talk about it,” he said. “It’s tough. I congratulate Bivol and his team… I think this fight was better than the first time.”
