It takes a special kind of person to run a boxing gym and I’ve definitely come to appreciate the people inside of the Pound 4 Pound Gym out here in Las Vegas.
Ran by the Barrientes family, father Richard Sr. and son Richard, the gym has always kept a low key approach while still finding a way to play host to some of the city’s top emerging talents.
During early afternoons you will be quick to spot guys like Jesus “Chuy” Gutierrez, a bruising lightweight contender with a 13-0 (4 KO’s) record, and Rahim Gonzales, one of the top-rated amateurs in the nation, in the building. Later on at night is when Pound 4 Pound plays host to a bevy of talented amateur kids following the footsteps of previous Vegas greats.
Pound 4 Pound is hosting a Car Wash this Saturday, May 16, from 9 Am to 1 PM and locals and visitors alike are welcome to attend. Donations will go towards keeping one of Vegas’ best gyms running so that the next generation of stars can continue honing their skills.
