After months of speculation, the boxing world finally was confirmed with news that Floyd Mayweather will be facing off with Argentina’s Marcos Maidana on May 3.

The announcement came on Monday, the same day that Mayweather celebrated his 37th birthday, and people have since been speculating about what the pay per view showdown means to the sport’s premier fighter.

Catching up with Mayweather’s longtime trainer and former two-division world champion Roger inside of the Mayweather Boxing Club recently, he seemed to feel that the public had a say in Maidana landing the match over Britain’s Amir Khan.

“I think that’s what the people wanted to see,” Roger explained. “People wanted to see what he could do with Maidana so I guess we’re going to find out.”

Given his relentless and pressing style, Maidana will figure to bring some sort of excitement into the ring with him.

But at the end of the day, Roger feels that Floyd is simply on another level, and has curiosity as to whether Maidana will even finish the match.

“Too much skill for him,” said Roger. “I think he’ll probably stop him. It probably aint going to be early but I believe he’ll stop him though.”
