In one of the year’s biggest fights, IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. will defend his title vs. four-division world champion Mikey Garcia, from the AT&T Stadium just outside of Dallas, TX. The fighters are presently in Dallas promoting the bout and despite Garcia moving up in weight to accept the challenge, there are still those who are giving him a chance to win on Saturday.
When it comes to getting insight into big fights and taking predictions, there is really no better place you can go then to inside a busy boxing gym. Online you hear a lot of opinions, but often times it’s from people who have no real passion or connection to the sport. In the gyms is often where it’s at.
During a recent swing through City Boxing Club in Las Vegas, we made it a point to get some opinions from people as to whether they think Garcia (39-0, 30 KO’s) can pull off the upset over Spence (24-0, 21 KO’s).
There were those like junior lightweight prospect Kingdamon Antoine (8-0, 7 KO’s) and super middleweight contender J’Leon Love (24-2-1, 13 KO’s) who strongly favor Spence, citing various reasons. On the flipside, there were several we spoke to, including light heavyweight prospect Ahmed Elbiali (18-1, 15 KO’s), who believe that Garcia is going to be able to deal with Spence’s size, power, and pressure.
