On Saturday, Nov. 8, Russian-born Sergey Kovalev left another stamp on the boxing world with a rousing, dominant 12-round unanimous decision over living legend Bernard Hopkins in Atlantic City.

The victory for the 31-year old Kovalev, who added Hopkins’ WBA and IBF titles to go with his WBO light heavyweight belt, is profound, as it helped wrap up another huge year for him.  During the match, Kovalev showed grit and guile, never falling into Hopkins’ traps while boxing wisely and showing glimpses of his heralded power.

Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado are getting ready to settle their score.

The two former junior welterweight champions, who have split a pair of thrilling fights, will meet for a third time on Jan. 24 at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Col., right outside of Alvarado’s hometown of Denver. HBO will televise the rubbermatch, just as they did the first two matches.

Rios (32-2-1, 23 KO’s) stopped Alvarado in under seven rounds in October of 2012 in an absolute firefight of a match in Southern California that left the boxing world buzzing.

While he will never be confused for a diehard Manny Pacquiao fan,  veteran trainer and former two-division world champion Roger Mayweather has seemed to gain a little bit of respect for the Filipino icon in recent times.

Pacquiao is fresh off of a 12-round blitzing of gritty but outmatched Chris Algieri in Macau, China this past weekend and Roger feels that the eight-division champion from General Santos City is ready for a crack at the man regarded as the best fighter in the world, his nephew Floyd.

On Saturday night, reining WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford was razor sharp in winning a commanding decision over former title challenger and proven threat Ray Beltran.

Often switching from orthodox to southpaw throughout the match, Crawford (25-0, 17 KO’s) just had too much grit and versatility on his favor, as scorecards reading 120-108 and 119-109 twice were in the favor of ‘Bud’.
