On July 17, IBF/WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo fought to a spirited 12-round split-draw with WBO champion Brian Castano in Houston, TX, as seen on SHOWTIME.
The fight had many ebbs and flows, with Castano (17-0-2, 12 KO’s) taking the early momentum, while Charlo (34-1-1, 18 KO’s) rallied late to secure the aforementioned draw verdict. After 12 rounds, scorecards read 117-111 Charlo, 115-113 Castano, and 114-114.
Each man retains their respective titles, while the sport is left to ponder a potential rematch.
We spoke with some fighters about the fight, including Dan Abram Jr., Rashad Holloway, Lydell Rhodes, Zach Cooper, Nate Campbell, Za-Quan Peterkin, and Francisco Esparza.
