Tuesday night was big for former WBO junior featherweight champion Isaac Dogboe.
Dogboe stopped Chris Avalos via eighth-round TKO inside of the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas, NV, in a featherweight contest aired on ESPN. It was a workmanlike performance for the Accra, Ghana fighter, as he improves his record to 21-2 (15 KO’s) while Avalos falls to 27-8 (20 KO’s).
Dogboe, working under new trainer Barry Hunter, was steady throughout, and seemed content on slowly breaking the 30-year old Avalos down. The end came at 2:25 of rough eight, as referee Russell Mora had seen Avalos take enough punishment, calling a halt to the action.
The 25-year old Dogboe had yet to return to the ring following back-to-back losses to Emanuel Navarrete, who stopped him in the 12th round of their rematch in May of 2019.
Expect a stiffer test for Dogboe’s next ring outing.
