Still just 18 year s old, Damien “Sugar” Vasquez has already left an impression during his early run as a professional.

Having turned pro at the age of 16 in August of 2013 down in Cancun, Mexico, Vasquez presently stands at 8-0 with 3 knockouts as a professional. That run included him collecting and defending the NABF junior flyweight belt that he won in just his sixth pro bout.

I have to admit it’s been a pretty fun ride covering the career of young Damien ‘Sugar’ Vasquez out here in Las Vegas.

Vasquez has went from a 15-year old amateur who turned heads in the city to where he is now, undefeated at 18 years of age and having captured the NABF junior flyweight title in just his sixth pro bout.

Moments before Nonito Donaire’s weigh-in for his rematch with Vic Darchinyan in Corpus Christi, Tex., his father Nonito Donaire Sr. took a few moments to break down the bout.

Having reconnected with his son for this training camp, as they split their time between their home base in Las Vegas and trainer Robert Garcia’s gym in Oxnard, Calif., Donaire Sr. was able to see first-hand just how focused he was coming off of April’s unanimous decision loss to Guillermo Rigondeaux.

“He’s 110% ready for this one,” Donaire Sr. stated exclusively to HustleBoss.com’s Sergio Venegas. “His speed is back, and his power, so it’s a good fight.”
