Looking back at my time in the media field, I am always grateful for the ensemble of characters I have met, including fellow creators and journalists.
I began interacting with Filipino journalist Dennis “DSource” Guillermo back in 2009. Both Dennis and I were upcoming writers at the time and I appreciated him for always offering a unique viewpoint of Filipino boxing and culture.
At the time there was a lot of buzz going around about the return of Floyd Mayweather from retirement as well as a potential fight between him and the resurgent Manny Pacquiao.
I saw Dennis as somewhat of a trailblazer at the time, as he traveled often to his native Philippines to get coverage, as he introduced the world to many of the country’s top prospects, while also going behind the scenes with legends such as Nonito Donaire and Pacquiao.
The years went by, Mayweather and Pacquiao finally ended up facing one another, and boxing as a whole has since changed. And I always made a point to remain in touch with Guillermo.
Some years back, I began covering expos out in Las Vegas, and connected with Guillermo on some key conventions after he himself later moved to the city.
We made a point to attend this year’s CES 2026 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and it was another epic gathering of brands, professionals, and everyday attendees.
Guillermo set the tone early with some behind-the-scenes coverage of an exhibition from Samsung, including their new Galaxy Z Trifold.
Later DSource visited CES Unveiled, the official preview event series for CES where select companies show off their headline products and innovations to media, analysts, and industry guests before the main show floor opens.
CES Unveiled typically features a mix of large brands and startups giving early demos of products in areas like AI, smart home, health tech, mobility, and gaming. It is designed as a faster, more curated way to see the big themes and standout gadgets that will define that year’s CES.
Such products included robot-playing chess, eyewear tech, robotic emotional support animals, an AI-Powered Smart Feeding and Drinking Station, electro chronic glasses that can change the tone of your visuals.
Was also very interesting to see CES incorporate The Sphere into this year’s expo, featuring Nvidia (NVDA) and AMD keynotes with their leaders (Time Magazine people of the Year) Jensen Huang and Lisa Su, who were very prevalent all week. The Sphere’s event was topped off by a special concert by Gwen Stefani
CES again played host to some of the biggest names in sports Like Derrick Rose, Venus Williams, Jimmy Butler and many more.
“CES just keeps getting bigger and better,” Guillermo stated.
