As seen earlier today, Floyd Mayweather has taken to his personal Instagram page to dismiss reports that a May 2 clash with Manny Pacquiao is set for Las Vegas.

The buzz on boxing’s dream match continues to build but after so many years of anticipation, not everyone is sold that Mayweather vs. Pacquiao will happen this year.

On Saturday, Jan. 31, pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather took to his personal Instagram page to respond to the latest rumors regarding his potential super fight with rival Manny Pacquiao.

Of course, as the world knows, TMZ.com reported yesterday that the fight is set. Upon hearing of the celebrity gossip site’s claim, several boxing insiders were quick to dismiss the report.

For the past five years, the two prize fighters have intrigued the boxing world and the general public with the possibility of a dream fight taking place, but seeing Mayweather and Pacquiao speaking to one another was definitely a positive sign to many.

Turns out that both Mayweather and Pacquiao were present inside of the American Airlines Arena in Miami for the Heat-Bucks game that evening. The Heat organization took notice and soon the world began buzzing.

The latest buzz has Mayweather possibly meeting up with Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto on May 2 in a rematch of their intense 2012 encounter that Floyd won via unanimous decision.

The more times passes, the more it seems like we may be seeing Floyd Mayweather face off with Miguel Cotto in a rematch on May 2 instead of a huge showdown with Manny Pacquiao that the boxing world and general public has been hoping for.

Cotto gave Mayweather a spirited battle in May of 2012, dropping a clear yet competitive decision over the course of 12 rounds inside of the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Moments ago in Broomfield, Co., just outside of Denver, Brandon Rios punished hometown favorite Mike Alvarado over the course of three-sided rounds in the third and final match in their memorable trilogy.

Rios was on top of Alvarado from the outset of the fight and scored the lone knockdown of the match in the third when Alvarado opted to take a knee.

Ask anyone from the boxing circuit who has been around photographer Tom Casino and they can surely tell you how affable and genuine of a guy he is.

That’s why it’s all the more disheartening to hear of Casino’s recent condition, as he is presently recovering from back surgery this past summer, followed by a near-lethal pulmonary embolism and stomach virus called c.diff. Casino went through six months of physical rehabilitation and he is looking at more than $100,000 in health-care expenses.

According to a report from Jake Donovan of BoxingScene.com, the Jan. 17 Showtime Championship Boxing telecast headlined by Deontay Wilder’s victory over Bermane Stiverne was a big ratings hit.

From the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Wilder produced his most complete performance a professional by outhustling his veteran foe to capture the WBC heavyweight title over 12 rounds.

Another championship weekend has come and gone with its share of fireworks. We witnessed a dominating performance by the New England Patriots and another incredible NFC championship game involving a come-from-behind victory from the Seattle Seahawks.

The NFC championship game began with a surprisingly dominant first half by the Green Bay Packers and no one would have guessed that the visiting teams would have had a 16-0 lead at halftime over the defending Super Bowl champions.

According to a report from Steve Kim at BoxingScene.com, it looks as though former junior middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez may be facing off with all-action James Kirkland on May 2 in San Antonio inside of the Alamodome.

The fight is on the verge of being finalized, according to sources, and the news is surprising given how much hope people were having on Alvarez meeting up with Miguel Cotto on May 2 before those negotiations fell apart.
