On Wednesday afternoon, HustleBoss.com stepped inside of the Elite Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Santa Fe Springs, Calif. as WBC featherweight champion Abner Mares (26-0-1, 14 KO’s) boxed with junior lightweight prospect Luis Martinez ahead of his Aug. 24 clash with former champion Jhonny Gonzalez.
Mares faces off with Gonzalez in a Showtime attraction from the StubHub Center in nearby Carson in what will serve as the first defense of his new title.
Mares won his WBC bauble with a resounding 10th round TKO over Daniel Ponce De Leon this past May in Las Vegas after moving up in weight and has stamped himself as one of the rising stars in the sport.

Julaton meets up with once-beaten Celina Salazar (4-1-2, 1 KO) on August 17th inside of the Plaza de Toros in Cancun, Mexico on a card promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.
If successful, there are whispers that Julaton could see time on the Floyd Mayweather-Saul Alvarez “The One” Showtime pay per view on September 14th but nothing is official at this point.

Weights are in for tomorrow night’s Showtime-televised triple header from the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. In a welterweight attracition, Marcos Maidana (33-3, 30 KO’s) came in at 147 pounds while Josesito Lopez (30-5, 18 KO’s) made weight at 145 pounds.
Also on the card is a junior middleweight attraction between contenders Erislandy Lara (17-1-2, 11 KO’s), who weighed 153.8 pounds and Alfredo Angulo (22-2, 18 KO’s), who weighed 153 pounds.
Junior middleweight prospect Jermell Charlo (20-0, 10 KO’s) made weight at 153.6 pounds while his opponent, Philadelphia’s Demetrius Hopkins (33-2-1, 13 KO’s), weighed 153.

HustleBoss.com was in the building as WBC interim champion Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) plays host to the media ahead of his upcoming clash with Floyd Mayweather (43-0, 26 KO’s). It was a packed scene inside of the typically-private IBA Gym, as many members from the media will also be present for Mayweather’s media day on Wednesday.
Guerrero faces off with Mayweather on May 4th, in a Showtime pay per view attraction from the MGM Grand.

On Tuesday afternoon, I caught up with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum inside of the main lobby of the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
While Arum was anticipating the grand arrival of his latest signee, former two-time gold medalist Zou Shiming from China, he took a few moments to address the latest developments with another one of his star fighters, Nonito Donaire.
Donaire is presently eyeing an April return to the ring, with reports having either a clash with WBA junior featherweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux or a rematch with former titlist Vic Darchinyan on tap.
There has been plenty of confusion taking place in the camp of Rigondeaux, from his issues with Miami-based Caribe Promotions to the Cuban bringing in the services of trainer Pedro Diaz at the expense of his former coach Jorge Rubio.
“That will be decided by the end of the week,” Arum said when discussing the situation. “We have made an offer to Rigondeaux and we’re waiting to see if he accepts.”
