On Thursday afternoon, the final press conference was held ahead of this weekend’s Danny Garcia vs. Robert Guerrero showdown. The match, pitting two former world champions vying for the vacant WBC welterweight title, will take place as part of a Premier Boxing Champions telecast on Fox from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

During his time on the dais, Guerrero’s father and trainer Ruben took a few swipes at Angel Garcia, Danny’s father and trainer. Ruben has been talking quite a bit these past few weeks, partly due to the manner in which Garcia has claimed his Puerto Rican heritage in previous fights, and party because that is simply what he does best.

On Saturday night, March 7, interim WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman defeated former multi-division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero over 12 entertaining rounds on the inaugural version of NBC’s “Premier Boxing Champions”.

From the outset of the match, it was apparent that Thurman’s speed and power was going to be a big factor, as he was able to establish an early edge over southpaw foe. Guerrero remained patient and kept pressing forward, but he simply couldn’t get into enough of a groove to establish control.

Earlier today, inside of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather (43-0, 26 KO’s) and WBC interim champion Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) both made weight comfortably ahead of their clash tomorrow night on Showtime pay-per-view.

Following each man’s weigh-in, the two fighters faced off and stared each other down for a lengthy while. You could tell that at any given moment, things were about to get hectic.

And while things appeared to be tense, no real physical altercation took place. Guerrero came in at 147 pounds while Mayweather hit the scales at 146 pounds.

Each man appears to be in tremendous shape and there is a strong feeling amongst press row that we will be seeing a more physical type of match than expected.

On Tuesday afternoon, interim WBC welterweight champion Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) played host to the media inside of the IBA Gym in Las Vegas ahead of his May 4 encounter with pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand.

And while Guerrero didn’t put forth a full-fledged workout, he instead chose to field more questions from the press as he shadowboxed in the center of the ring towards the end of his media day.

I asked Guerrero for his thoughts on his face off with Mayweather that aired last month. As seen by millions online after the video went viral, Mayweather could be seen verbally taunting Guerrero, obviously looking to get some kind of rise out of him.

Instead, Guerrero simply laughed and brushed off Mayweather’s talk. I asked “The Ghost” why exactly he didn’t get back in Floyd’s face and he gave me his reasoning.

On Tuesday, Floyd Mayweather once again captured the attention of the boxing world when it was revealed that he had inked a record-breaking six-fight deal with Showtime PPV.

Coming in hand with the announcement was the confirmation of interim WBC welterweight champion Robert Guerrero as his May 4th opponent when he steps back into the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Coming off of decision victories of two bruising welterweights in Andre Berto and Selcuk Aydin, Guerrero will figure to give Mayweather a spirited battle despite the heavy odds that will see him as the underdog.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes in Las Vegas, Mayweather’s camp is already taking shape.

On Tuesday night, perennial pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather set the boxing world on fire when he announced some recent developments pertaining to his May 4th return to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

While WBC interim welterweight titlist Robert Guerrero was looked at as the favorite to land the fight, Mayweather instead suggested that St. Louis’ Devon Alexander may be getting the opportunity.

“The negotiations for my fight are almost done,” Mayweather tweeted. “The front runner is IBF Champion Devon Alexander. It’d be a unification bout at welterweight.”

On Wednesday night, I caught up with trainer Tony Morgan, a man who knows Guerrero very well.
