For bantamweight contender and WBO #6 ranked Alexis Santiago, new doors are beginning to open.
It’s been about four years since Santiago (18-3-1, 8 KO’s) walked through the doors of the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, Nev. and the 24-year old hasn’t left anything to waste during his training in that time.
Having won his last seven bouts, Santiago’s spirits are as high as ever with the recent news of his signing with Mayweather Promotions. The Phoenix native’s first assignment under his new promoter is a Sept. 8 date in Hollywood, Calif. against Fernando Lumacad from the Philippines.
Santiago has gained invaluable experience since relocating his camps out to Las Vegas, from all the top-flight sparring, to learning from trainers such as Roger Mayweather, Otis Pimpleton, Rafael Ramos, and most recently Nate Jones, seen below.
Catching up with Sanitago this past week, he spoke on the importance of his new pact and what should be in store for him.
“It means a lot,” Santiago said of signing with Mayweather Promotions. “I think there is a pretty good chance for us to step up for a title soon.”
Santiago spoke with Floyd Mayweather recently and seems to have no doubt about the moves they can make together.
“I talked to him the other day when he was done training,” Santiago said. “He says he’s going to help me get to where I need to get to. I’m pretty sure we’ll get to a world title pretty soon.”
