On Saturday night from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York , WBA/WBC junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia scored a razor-thin majority decision over WBO champion Lamont Peterson in a non-title matchup.

The matchup featured two of the game’s top 140-pounders in a catch weight match. Peterson weighed in at 143 pounds while Garcia was 142.2.

Garcia (30-0, 17 KO’s) was the clear favorite heading into the match and he delivered early as often as he could against a very crafty Peterson (33-3-1, 17 KO’s), who had great success throughout the match by boxing his younger foe.

The late rounds belonged to Peterson as he turned up the pressure against a fading Garcia.  It was too little, too late however, as the Philadelphia native was rewarded with the narrow win.

In defeat, however, Peterson  sees his stock rise and has performed very well since his shocking TKO loss to Lucas Matthysse a few years back.

Don’t be surprised to see both men moving to the welterweight ranks by year’s end.
