WBC interim junior welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse has been blessed with the biggest opportunity of his career as his Sept. 14 clash with WBA/WBC champion Danny Garcia was recently announced to great fanfare.

Fighting as part of the Floyd Mayweather-Saul Alvarez Showtime pay per view event from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Matthysse will have all eyes locked on him as he looks to derail the streaking Garcia while announcing himself as the man to beat at 140 pounds.

Over the weekend, a source from within Matthysse’s camp reached out to HustleBoss.com to give us some updates on Lucas’ mindset and his early training.

“I saw Matthysse and he is very happy with the fight,” revealed the insider. “He speaks in the ring; he doesn’t like to speak on Twitter.”

Matthysse actually kicked off his camp this past weekend in the city of Junin in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Matthysse is staying in a nearby resort to stay away from distractions and he will once again be using the Arano Box Gym for his core training.

With Matthysse for this camp will be his trainer Luis Barrera, assistant Dario Fernandez, his doctors Eduardo Leguizamon and Ruben Arano, and his strength and conditioning coach Gerardo Pereyra.

In two weeks Matthysse will begin sparring with a revolving cast of sparring mates. The most notable name of the bunch appears to be former title challenger Sebastian Lujan (41-7-2, 25 KO’s), who has been a fixture in previous camps for Matthysse.

Also working with Matthysse will be junior middleweight Juan Bonanni (21-5-3, 8 KO’s), lightweight Marcelino Lopez (26-0-1, 12 KO’s), junior lightweight Ezequiel Fernandez (16-, 3 KO’s), middleweight Mateo Veron (17-9-2, 2 KO’s), and others.

Expect more updates from the camp of Matthysse in the coming weeks.
