This past Friday afternoon, while inside of City Athletic Boxing in Las Vegas, I caught word that two of the gym’s top amateur fighters, Dominique Clark and Bowe Van Dam, were set to perform at the “All Comers” show inside of the Richard Steele Boxing Club the following day.
I made a point to check out Clark and Van Dam in action and they definitely didn’t disappoint.
In the eighth bout of the day, Clark stepped in the ring with Vincent Booker and made short work on his opponent, ending the match in the first round. Clark was simply too powerful, and moved his opponent around the ring at will with thudding shots.
One bout later, Van Dam faced off with highly-touted Kye Brooks and found himself in a tough scrap. The 20-year old survived a pair of standing eight counts in the first round from Brooks before turning things around and coming back hard in the second and third frames before ultimately dropping a decision.
Van Dam showed great grit in weathering the storm of the first round and this will surely be a learning lesson for him. This marked Clark’s third ring appearance and the tenth outing for Van Dam, so both guys will be improving more as the months pass.
