The pieces are starting to fall into place for this weekend’s showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Brandon Rios in China.
Earlier today, Team Pacquiao touched down in Macau, while other media members from all parts of the globe have also begun their trek to the city in advance of the HBO pay per view event
One man who will likely be ringside at the fight is longtime HBO unofficial judge Harold Lederman.
Catching up with Lederman this past weekend in Ontario, Calif. in advance of Andre Ward’s victory over Edwin Rodriguez, the affable New Yorker showed enthusiasm towards boxing’s next big duel
“This is going to be a war, really,” said Lederman of Pacquiao-Rios. “You know Brandon Rios, he comes to fight. He don’t care where the fight is. I realize it’s in Asia, but Brandon’s going to come to fight.
“Manny’s lost two in a row and he needs a win,” Lederman added. “And he’s fighting in Asia, so that’s a big advantage for him. I think it’s going to be a terrific show.”
Asked what Rios’ best shot at winning is, Lederman didn’t hesitate.
“A knockout,” he stated sharply.
Lederman elaborated, insisting that Rios needs to simply fight with the same zeal and fortitude that has typified his prizefighting career thus far.
“The way he always does, he comes right at you,” said Lederman. “He just makes the fight and it’s going to be great.”
