Kevin “Thunderstorm” Johnson Becomes a Free Agent

By Chris Robinson

It was many years when we first crossed paths with Kevin “Thunderstorm” Johnson out in Las Vegas.

Then an aspiring amateur fighter with high hopes, Johnson was training out of the Mayweather Boxing Club and still only 18 years of age.

Johnson was both ambitious and fearless as a fighter, and picked up valuable experience learning from Roger Mayweather, Otis Pimpleton, and through sparring quality fighters at the gym.

Johnson turned professional in December of 2016 with a first round TKO over Austin Reed Ward. His promoter at the time was Mayweather Promotions.

He has since complied a 12-3 record (8 KO’s) and has handed defeats to five previously unbeaten opponents.

Even in his defeats, to Fazliddin Gaibnazarov, Richardson Hitchins, and Cristian Baez, Johnson was extremely competitive.

Johnson has recently taken to social media to announce that he is a free agent.

“I’m officially a free agent. No manager. No promoter. It’s go time!!”

Johnson has not fought since December of 2022, and is itching to get back in the ring.

There are a lot of options on the table for Johnson, and it will be interesting to see which direction he goes.
