Amir Khan & Devon Alexander Fight Announcement

It’s common knowledge in the boxing game that Amir Khan is regarded as one of the more lucrative ring options for Floyd Mayweather heading into the 2015 boxing schedule. Mayweather is a few months removed from a rematch victory over Marcos Maidana and is once again eyeing a pair of matches in May and September of next year.

Khan’s spirits are fresh, today being his 28th birthday, and he is certainly one of the more marketable faces in the mix.

But lost in everything has perhaps been Khan’s forthcoming ring assignment of his own, as he will be tangling with former two-division world champion Devon Alexander on Dec. 13 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev.

Khan is a favorite heading into the match but Alexander figures to be a stern test given his pedigree, southpaw style, and understanding of just how big this opportunity is.

A quick swing through the nearby Mayweather Boxing Club in town offers up contrasting opinions on the fight.

Veteran trainer Roger Mayweather, a two-division world champ in his own right, seems unsure of Alexander’s chances.

“I don’t think Devon Alexander would beat him,” said Roger. “He’s a pretty good fighter but if he’s goign to fight a guy like Amir Khan, he’s going to have to have [good work-rate];know how to keep close to him, move his head. Attacking his body. Attacking his head. That’s what he’s going to have to do.”

“If he aint getting close, he aint going to beat him,” Roger would add, emphasizing how the St. Louis native must force the issue this coming weekend.

As for Khan, Roger sees a much more simple strategy for the British star.

“Amir Khan can beat Devon Alexander with this…,” Roger explained, pumping out his jab in an obvious explanation that a boxing clinic could be Khan’s best route.

We’ll see this Saturday night.
