On Saturday night, February 22, Tyson Fury came through with perhaps his most brilliant performance to date in halting former champion Deontay Wilder in seven rounds.
The fight took place on a joint FOX/ESPN pay per view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV, and was a rematch of Fury and Wilder’s first fight from December of 2918. In that contest, Wilder dropped Fury twice, as the two men fought to a split-draw.
The second time around, it was all Fury, as he dominated the action, scoring two knockdowns of his own, before the fight was stopped in round seven. Wilder’s trainer Mark Breland elected to throw in the towel, despite post-fight protests from his team, and it appeared to be the right move to make.
Wilder was in a tough position, bleeding from his ear, and his legs were unsteady, as he continued to take punishment. It seemed to be only a matter of time.
