Being Fit is Key to a Healthy Mind and Soul

Being fit is a lifestyle

By Alexandria Cannon

My fitness journey started back in Spring 2012. I was 19 years old and had low self-esteem and I hated the way that I looked. It was one day that I looked in the mirror and I realized that I wanted to change and I did exactly that. It all started one day and I never looked back.

Though I was a collegiate athlete I knew that I had to make some changes to be in good shape. People did not understand why I was working out so much and when they do not understand what you are doing with your life you might have to let them go. In order to get where you want to go one must do things they would not ordinarily do.

It is good to get out of your comfort zone in order to achieve great things. It is hard to make a lifestyle change but if one has support then one can achieve anything.

Most people nowadays are on a fitness kick and want to be fit; however, it is more than just looking good. When one takes care of their body their mind will follow. Being fit is more than just looking good on the outside; everyone’s definition of fit is different to people.

Most people nowadays want to look like the Kardashians (the women); however, one must learn to love themselves fully, flaws and all. No one has the perfect body, but society and social media gets into people’s mind of what they believe to be beautiful. It is important to know that internal growing is just as important external growth. Most men want some sort of 6-pack, strong arms, strong legs, strong chest, strong back, etc., but that does not necessarily make them a strong man overall.

When one allows being fit to be a part of their healthy lifestyle, it changes their daily habits and routines. It helps one develop some sort of discipline in their life and it helps them become better individuals in some sort of way. Not only does being fit help one’s exterior it helps internally with one’s organs. In order to have the healthy lifestyle, one must change their eating habits, start adding exercising to one’s routine, and surrounding themselves around fitness minded people. Although it can be done alone, it is easier to have help along with it.

Make the change!
