There is a lot on the line for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. heading into his Mar. 1 rematch against Brian Vera.
Chavez won a controversial unanimous decision over Vera in September and he is eager to show the world that his subpar performance in the first meeting was just a fluke.
Speaking with Chavez’s co-promoter, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, on Friday afternoon, we gathered a few updates.
“He’s been training in Culiacan,” Arum said of Chavez. “His father says he looks great. We flew him into L.A. [Thursday] to do some shooting with HBO. He appears to be in good shape and he wants to put in an outstanding performance.”
Arum revealed that Chavez, if successful against Vera, will headline a big pay per view show come July in Las Vegas.
There are three opponents that Arum has in mind in super middleweight kingpin Andre Ward, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, and Notthingham’s Carl Froch.
Anyone of those fights would be appealing but Chavez has to finish his business with Vera first.
