Moments ago, inside of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez won a split-decision victory over Erislandy Lara in a very close, tough fight.

With the victory, Canelo moves to 44-1-1 with 31 knockouts while Lara drops to 19-2-2 with 12 knockouts.

Canelo came out with aggression but Lara made things difficult with his tricky southpaw style.

Canelo had success digging to Lara’s body while the Cuban stalwart was at his best moving and picking his spots against his younger foe.

Following the 12th round, scores of 117-111 and 115-113 for Canelo overrode the 115-113 card in favor of Lara.

“I came to fight,” Canelo stated afterwards to Showtime’s Jim Grey. “I didn’t come to run. You don’t win by running.

“I pressured the whole fight,” Canelo added.

When asked if he will ever give Lara a rematch, Canelo seemed disinterested.

“When he learns how to fight,” Canelo quipped.

Lara obviously shares a different viewpoint.

“I did my fight and 100% I won this fight,” he stated.
