In a shocking result, WBA middleweight champion Danny Jacobs scored a thrilling first round knockout over friendly rival Peter Quillin on Saturday night inside of Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The fight was highly-anticipated and still found a way to deliver in terms of excitement. A right hand from Jacobs (31-1, 28 KO’s) stunned Quillin (32-1-1, 23 KO’s) in the opening minute of the match and a follow-up barrage left the former champion even more dazed, with referee Harvey Dock waiving the match off at just 85 seconds into the contest.
Online, some people are debating the stoppage, as many felt it was a bit premature and that a standing eight count was warranted. Still, there is no denying just how severely hurt Quillin was.
“Speed kills,” Jacobs stated post-fight.
