I remember hearing good things about lightweight prospect Dustin Arnold a few years back from one of my friends in the South Florida area and made a point to link up with him recently when he was out in Las Vegas.

Arnold was in town this past week with his trainer, former amateur fighter Jeff Poritz, in search of some work ahead of his Aug. 5 return to the ring in Tampa, Fl. and I was able to follow him a few days and get a sense of how serious he is towards his craft.

On Thursday, Arnold stepped inside of the world renown Johnny Tocco’s Ringside Gym to get some work, as he went some rounds with local prospect Joseph “Bandito” Macedo. What I appreciate most about Arnold is how patient and poised he is as he goes about his attack; it served him well on this particular day, considering just how elusive Macedo can be at times.

The next day Arnold swung through City Boxing Club and went some fast-paced rounds with Algeria’s Djamel Dahou (14-0, 13 KO’s), a top-notch junior welterweight prospect with a wealth of amateur experience. It was spirited work, and the two men showed their mutual respect after.

All in all it was a short visit from Arnold, who flew back to Florida on Saturday afternoon, yet I was happy that I had the chance to see him put in some real work.

Arnold (1-1) has a lot of strong qualities in the ring, from his disciplined approach and the excellent body work he puts in. In addition to his style in the ring, Arnold also has a backstory worth sharing, that includes the responsibility he takes on full-time with his two sons back home.

It will definitely be a fun ride watching his journey unfold, as Arnold is somebody who is easy to root for. Stay tuned for updates from his Aug. 5 fight and check below for a closer look at him in action during his recent Vegas visit.
