As I walked inside of Johnny Tocco’s Boxing Gym this past Friday, I knew something good was in store.
The famed facility began hosting Exhibition Sparring matches on the first Friday of every month and thus far the action has been top notch. This was exactly the case when I saw lightweight veteran Rashad Ganaway and upstart amateur prospect Joseph “El Bandito” Macedo facing off and trading blows.
Ganaway (15-5-1, 9 KO’s) captured the vacant WBC USNBC title in his last fight, an eight-round unanimous decision over Leon Spinks III last month, to get his career back on track and sparring inside of Tocco’s was sure to keep him in shape.
Just 18 years old, Macedo is a very talented kid and he has been getting great seasoning this year from all the work he has been putting in with a wide array of fighters. His fast-paced work with Ganaway was a testament to the kind of tough work that has been going on inside of the building in recent months since we’ve covered their First Friday shows.

Was good to see undefeated welterweight prospect Jeremiah Wiggins put in work. It had been a minute but he still has it.
