Floyd Mayweather Sr. reveals why his son would knock out Danny Garcia

Never one to shy away from the spotlight, outspoken trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. has received his share of attention in recent weeks due to his involvement in his son Floyd’s recent training camp ahead of his May 4th date with Robert Guerrero.

Putting in time at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, Floyd Sr. has served as somewhat of a mentor for this particular clash, offering up insight and advice on select occasions as his son trains ardently for the 44th professional bout of his career.

Mayweather vs. Guerrero takes place on Saturday night from the MGM Grand and one of the big subplots heading into the event is that fact that Mayweather will be fighting on Showtime pay per view for the first time.

Mayweather has noted that he would like to fight five more times after Guerrero, and if successful this weekend in defending his WBC welterweight crown, the focus will surely turn to his next opponent.

Several fans and insiders have been clamoring for a potential face off with WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who scored his biggest victory as a professional on April 20 with a unanimous decision over the very-dangerous Austin Trout in San Antonio, Texas.

It’s a lucrative fight for sure, yet the elder Mayweather seems more interested in seeing his son face off with Philadelphia’s Danny Garcia, proud holder of the WBA and WBC baubles at 140 pounds.

“I would love for him to fight Garcia,” Mayweather Sr. confirmed. “That would be a knockout for sure.”

Garcia is coming off of his own rousing victory last weekend as he dropped and won a decision over former two-division title holder Zab Judah in a bloody brawl.

Garcia had great command of the fight through nine rounds yet saw the action shift late in the fight when a resilient Judah began to turn up the pressure while tagging him repeatedly.

Mayweather Sr. saw the action and seems to feel that Zab may have let one slip away.

“I think Judah could have whooped him,” stated Mayweather Sr. “He didn’t whoop him because he started late. All he won was three rounds I think it was. He started fighting then, making the man miss and everything. All this stuff should have took place when the fight first got started. You don’t wait until the end of the fight.”

Mayweather Sr. believes that certain technical flaws from Garcia would lead to a disastrous night for him if he were to face Floyd.

“That’s a for sure [knockout] for Floyd,” Mayweather Sr. claimed. “You know why? All he throws is looping punches. Floyd will catch all of that. And he knows what he’s going to throw before he throws it. A fighter like that, you get punished. “

Before our conversation ended, Floyd Sr. threw out one last gem.

“I’m going to be honest with you; it’s hard for me to believe that Garcia could whoop me,” stated Mayweather Sr.
