In a fight that may have been much tougher than expected, Chattanooga, Tenn. native Ryan Martin captured a ten-round split-decision over a very tough Francisco Rojo inside of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
Martin (20-0, 11 KO’s) wasn’t able to capture the victory in easy fashion, however, as Rojo (20-3, 11 KO’s) kept pressure on throughout the fight. It was the sharp-punching of Martin vs. the aggression of Rojo.
Following ten rounds of action, scorecards reading 96-93 and 95-94 were read in Martin’s favor, giving him the victory. The third judge has Rojo up 98-91. After the bout, Martin shared his thoughts.
“I didn’t feel 100% tonight, even though I got the split decision,” said Martin. “I know I fought a good fight despite the adversity in the ring. I know the judge that scored in favor of Rojo recognized good boxing in him. I’m glad I have this new belt and it’s on to the next.”
