Moments ago, inside of the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, California, former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) and his opponent Brian Vera (23-6, 14 KO’s) both made the catch weight limit of 173 pounds ahead of their HBO-televised clash tomorrow night.
The Chavez-Vera fight has endured its share of hiccups, from seeing the fight postponed on multiple occasions to news surfacing earlier this week that Chavez was having serious difficulty making the super middleweight limit of 168 pounds that the fight was originally agreed upon.
After some suspense, a catch weight of 173 pounds was agreed upon.
Making his way to the scales first, Vera came in weighing 171.2 pounds while Chavez weighed 172.4 moments later.
Chavez will likely put on a serious amount of weight and could be nearly 20 pounds heavier than Vera by the time the first bell tolls.
It remains to be seen if the added mass with help Chavez or hurt him over the second half of the fight.
All questions will be answered tomorrow night on HBO’s airwaves when the two men meet inside of the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.
