Update from Dallas, Tex. as it looks like the Maurice Hooker vs. Eduardo Galindo matchup for the vacant WBO NABO junior welterweight title will still be taking place despite Galindo coming in overweight at yesterday’s weigh in. Hooker vs. Galindo takes place from the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center later tonight.

Hooker (17-0-2, 13 KO’s) weighed in just under the junior welterweight limit of 140 pounds but it was Galindo (10-0-1, 7 KO’s) who was five pounds over at 145 pounds. Galindo refused to attempt to lose the weight in the allowed 2-hour period after weighing over and was advised that he needed to weigh in no more than 150 pounds this morning under the supervision of NABO president Porfirio Betegon.

Galdino weighed 151 pounds actually, but Team Hooker is electing to push forward with the matchup.

“This is my shot, I am not backing down” said Maurice Hooker.  “I trained hard to get into top shape and I weighed in at just under 140 pounds  in respect of the WBO NABO weight limit for this title fight. I can only control my own weight and own training not that of my opponent.  In training camp, I sparred with super middleweight Jose Uzcategui from Venezuela so I am prepared to battle with a much heavier opponent.  The only thing that I am focused on right now is getting that belt and making Dallas proud.”
