Sounds like some great action was going down last night in El Paso, Tex. as three fighters from Roy Jones Jr.’s promotional banner all scored victories inside of the El Paso County Coliseum.
In the evening’s main event, former bantamweight champion Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko scored a 4th round TKO over Juanito Rubillar to improve to 30-5 with 23 knockouts. It was Agbeko’s first fight since his lopsided defeat to Guillermo Rigondeaux in December of 2013 and this was a pivotal step for the Ghanaian.
“I thank God for the strength for the comeback,” Agbeko stated afterwards on social media. “I thank my team for believing in me. I thank everyone that supported this course.”
Agbeko has been training like a dog ever since signing with Roy Jones Jr. earlier this year and his professionalism is always on point. Expect a big fight for Joseph later in the year.
On the undercard, Montenegro’s Milorad ‘Micko’ Zizic (12-1, 6 KO’s) bounced back from his first pro loss in March, where he lost to talented Louis Rose, to pound out a 5th round TKO over the always-game Rahman Yusubov.
Micko is as likeable as they come and already looking towards his next return.
Also seeing action was Louisiana native Demond Brock, who improved to 9-3 (3 KO’s) after winning an eight-round unanimous decision over Pablo Torres. Brock’s last fight was a barn burner vs. Vegas fan favorite Cameron Kreal and he is definitely an interesting character between 135 and 140 pounds.
Brock, Zizic, and Agbeko all train out of the Roy Jones Jr. Fight Academy in Las Vegas, so stay tuned for exclusive post-fight thoughts from each guy.
