On Saturday, Jan. 16, veteran trainer Ronnie Shields saw his fighter Artur Szpilka get stopped in the ninth round in his bid to unseat WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

With the win, Wilder sees his record move to 36-0 with 35 knockouts while Szpilka falls to 20-2 with 15 knockouts.

Following the match, our friends at Garnek Sports went behind the scenes with Spzilka’s trainer Ronnie Shields.

Shields, who trained Szpilka down in Houston, Tex., felt the match was going their way before Wilder ended matters.

“I loved it,” said Shields. “I thought he was winning the fight. But one mistake and it ended. But look, he fought a great fight and he did everything we asked him to do.”
