One thing I will always respect is someone who pushes towards a goal with hard work and passion.
If you pay a visit to Maricela Cornejo’s Instagram Page you will see what I am talking about. An aspiring professional female boxer who made her bones on the West Coast, Cornejo has been soaking up life in Miami, Fl. in recent months.
“I feel like my old self again,” Cornejo recently said of her big move and new climate that has given her a new sense of inspiration. A 2-1 middleweight prospect, Cornejo has been working ardently in and out of the ring and you can tell she has some special things brewing.

Cornejo now works under the guidance of her new trainer, Matt Baiamonte, out of his personal facility, and she couldn’t be happier with her progression.
“I love it here,” Cornejo revealed of the South Florida lifestyle. “Training in Miami has been a breath of fresh air and a huge risk as well. I came here with a purpose and goal. I see it unwinding more and more in the past few weeks. I’ve known this day would come. Never did I doubt my vision. I may have had few bumps and bruises that may have led me to an even better path then I had initially.
“But I truly believe that’s God’s way of showing me he’s in control and has an even bigger vision for me,” she added. “All I have to do is train hard and wait until the ‘big boys’ see my vision as well. All I ask is for a stage to showcase my skills and my personality to the world who is waiting for a women boxer to make a splash.”
I first crossed paths with Cornejo a few years back when she was living in Las Vegas, as she was transitioning into a new role of a pupil under esteemed trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. From being around her for just a short time you could tell instantly that Cornejo had a nice boxing skill set as well as a great sense of what will be needed to really break through and leave her mark in the sport.
It’s not surprising at all to see her making such moves but the road ahead is filled with many more twists and turns.
