Following a successful comeback performance against Brandon Rios on Nov. 23, Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao is slated for a ring return this April in Las Vegas, Nevada.

There were several question marks surrounding Pacquiao heading into the Rios clash, as his previous fight saw him stopped in horrific fashion by Juan Manuel Marquez, but he showed himself to be more than up to the task in winning a lopsided unanimous decision.

Speaking with Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum on Tuesday evening, he is certain the next opponent for the eight-division champion will be decided in the coming days.

“We’re going to decide before Christmas,” Arum explained. “We’ll [know] who he’s going to fight.”

Arum mentioned that the three names being tossed around are Marquez, Tim Bradley, and Ruslan Provodnikov.

Pacquiao has been in the ring with all three men, facing Marquez in four memorable encounters while dropping a split-decision to Bradley in June of last year. Pacquiao also has sparred several rounds with Provodnikov in recent years.

Asked what the appeal is of each fighter, Arum spoke logically.

“We’re talking to the pay per view people,” he stated. “Whatever makes the most sense.

“I don’t make appeals,” Arum added. “Whatever we decide, we’ll make an intelligent decision. And that’s who we’ll fight.”

2013 didn’t go as expected for former lightweight titlist Brandon Rios.

In March, Rios would lose a razor-thin points victory over twelve rounds in a rematch with Mike Alvarado in Las Vegas.

Given that the fight was wildly entertaining, Rios’ stock didn’t drop too horribly and he would still end up landing a pay per view shot at Filipino star Manny Pacquiao later in the year.

On Nov. 23, in Macau, China, Rios was soundly outpointed by Pacquiao, as he absorbed several flush punches on his way to a unanimous decision loss.

Following his unanimous decision victory over Brandon Rios last month, the reviews for Manny Pacquiao’s return bout were generally positive.

Inside of the Venetian Resort’s Coati Arena in Macau, China, Pacquiao showed himself to be well up to the task, as he tagged Rios all night long while showing enough defensive prowess and footwork to stay out of harm’s way.

The fight was Pacquiao’s first match in eleven months, dating back to his knockout loss this past December to Juan Manuel Marquez.

Catching up with Bob Arum on Monday afternoon, the veteran promoter revealed that a big reason why Pacquiao looked so refreshed was his decision to train in his hometown of General Santos City, Philippines as opposed to staging another camp in Los Angeles.

While at yesterday’s media brunch in Los Angeles advance of this weekend’s welterweight title clash between WBO champion Tim Bradley and Mexico City’s Juan Manuel Marquez, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum discussed the future options of Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto.

This past weekend in Orlando, Fl., Cotto returned to HBO’s airwaves with a scintillating stoppage over Delvin Rodriguez in the third round. Cotto was in rare form, as he ripped the Dominican’s body relentlessly while breaking him down with sharp, powerful blows.

After having two fights co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in 2012, Cotto returned to work with Top Rank, his original promoter dating back to his pro debut in 2001, for the Rodriguez match and it looks like a strong possibility that he will finish his career with the company.

Arum seemed extremely upbeat when discussing Cotto’s options, pointing towards a match with lineal middleweight champion Sergio Martinez in particular as a fight worth making. Arum also discussed the possibility of a showdown with former junior middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

Fresh off of a resounding 3rd round TKO over Delvin Rodriguez this past weekend, Puerto Rican star and former three-division titlist Miguel Cotto’s future looks bright as he enters the final stretch of his illustrious career.

A promotional free agent, Cotto worked with his original promoter Top Rank for the Rodriguez fight after seeing bouts against Floyd Mayweather and Austin Trout in 2012 co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.

One of the biggest stars in all of boxing, Cotto has the luxury of picking from the most enticing matches available and he certainly seems to have some serious options floating around.

I caught up with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum at Monday’s media brunch in Los Angeles in advance of this weekend’s Timothy Bradley-Juan Manuel Marquez pay per view attraction and got his thoughts on Cotto’s choices moving forward.
