WBC Junior Featherweight Champion Rey Vargas Faces Former Champion Tomoki Kameda on July 13

A thoroughly stacked night of Golden Boy action heads to the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. as Rey Vargas (33-0, 22 KOs) defends his WBC Super Bantamweight World Title in the 12-round main event against No. 1 Contender and former world champion Tomoki “El Mexicanito” Kameda (36-2, 20 KOs). The card will also feature the return of Diego De La Hoya, Joet Gonzalez, Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez, Alexis “Lex” Rocka and Jousce “Tito” Gonzalez. The fights will take place on Saturday, July 13 and will be streamed live on DAZN.

On Saturday night, from the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, CA, the boxing world witnessed another closely-contested decision, as WBC welterweight champion Shawn Porter overcame a spirited effort from tough Cuban contender Yordenis Ugas to win a split-decision after 12 rounds of action. Scorecards read 117-111 for Ugas and 116-112 and 115-113 for Porter, in a fight that aired on FOX under the Premier Boxing Champions banner.

It was a very tense and tactical affair, with several of the rounds being hard to decipher as far as who should have won the frame. Ugas appeared to be more active in spots and began catching Porter with some telling right hands as the fight wore on. For his part, Porter boxed on his toes more than we are accustomed to seeing him, despite never seeming to mount any kind of offensive attack.

On Saturday night, WBA junior lightweight champion Gervonta Davis defended his title with a dominant first-round TKO of former world champion Hugo Ruiz before a sellout crowd of 8,048 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, CA. The one-sided contest aired on SHOWTIME Championship Boxing, as Davis raised his mark to 21-0 (20 KO’s) while Ruiz fell to 39-5 (32 KO’s).

With his promoter Floyd Mayweather watching from ringside, Davis made quick work of his late-replacement opponent.
