Argentina’s Lucas Matthysse may not be the world’s best fighter but he always delivers some kind of excitement inside of the ring.

On Saturday night, Matthysse (37-4, 34 KO’s) came up short against tough and tall Ukrainian Viktor Postol (28-0, 12 KO’s) inside of the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. on HBO’s airwaves. Matthysse started strong but faded late and was dropped and stopped in the 10th round.

Over the past five years, Maytthysse has been one of the busiest fighters in the sport, as he has scored big victories over Ruslan Provodnikov, John Molina Jr., Lamont Peterson, Humberto Soto, and others, while also suffering losses to Zab Judah, Devon Alexander, Danny Garcia, and Postol.

Matthysse appeared to rattle Postol several times in the seventh round but began to run out of gas shortly thereafter. In the tenth a big right hand from Postol dropped Matthysse and he elected to remain on his knees as opposed to rising, as referee Jack Reiss waved the bout off.

Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Matthysse revealed that he heard a “pop” in his eye, hence his decision not to fight on.
