This past month in Las Vegas, I came across legendary boxing figure Joe Cortez.

Now retired as an official, Cortez is known best for having been a referee during some of the sport’s biggest matches over the years. These days, Cortez stays busy with commentating, as well as advising those in the sport.

When I found out that Cortez has been working closely with Yahu “Rock” Blackwell, I become interested in learning more about the Nigerian cruiserweight prospect.

In addition to finding out how active Yahu is on social media, including his YouTube channel that shows updates of his training, I also found out he amassed a 156-28 record as an amateur before recently competing for a fifteen-win stretch while active under the International Boxing League overseas.

I also became aware that Blackwell will next see action in the ring this coming Thursday, March 9, in Tijuana, Mexico, as he will be fighting inside of the Escape’s Sports Bar.

Blackwell is following in the footsteps of several prospects who have opted for showcases down in Mexico, including undefeated phenom Devin Haney, who has fought eight times down south.

As evidenced by a recent training clip from his IG page, Blackwell is already deep into his regimen for March 9.

“I’m so excited about getting back in the ring,” Yahu stated of his next assignment. “We’ve been working extremely hard over the years. Training day and night! I am more than ready to honor Yahuah, myself, my mother, and my people of Yahudi,”

Please follow Yahu on Instagram for more updates and stay tuned for more pre and post-fight coverage from his next bout.
