This past weekend in Detroit, Michigan, Las Vegas native Ishe Smith finally realized his full potential in wrestling the IBF junior middleweight title away from Cornelius ‘K9’ Bundrage after twelve rounds of action.

Despite the scorecards ending up with a split-decision verdict, Smith clearly was the victor, as evidenced by his grit, fortitude, and better work rate over the second half of the fight.

One man who was certainly a curious spectator was junior middleweight contender Gabriel Rosado.

After twelve rounds, two 116-111 scorecards favored Smith, with a 114-113 tally going in Bundrage’s direction.

Watching the action unfold from his fighter’s corner, trainer and former light heavyweight titlist Eddie Mustafa Muhammad seemed elated with Smith’s showing.

On Friday night, inside of the DC Armory in Washington, DC, IBF junior welterweight titlist Lamont Peterson made a stirring return to the ring in halting a game but outgunned Kendall Holt inside of eight rounds.

Peterson was sidelined all of last year due to failing a pre-fight drug test ahead of his scheduled rematch this past May with Amir Khan, who he had upset in December of 2011.

After Khan saw his opportunity for revenge against Peterson go up in flames, he then turned his attention to a July encounter with Philadelphia’s Danny Garcia. In a shocker, Garcia would drop Khan three times on his way towards a 4th round TKO.

Earlier tonight, inside of the DC Armory in Washington, DC, IBF junior welterweight champion Lamont Peterson ended a year-plus layoff by emphatically halting former titlist Kendall Holt.

Peterson hadn’t fought since his upset victory over Amir Khan in December of 2011 and it was easy to spot his rust early as Holt got off to a comfortable start while also digging in some nice lefts to the body.

Peterson would erupt in the fourth round, however, as he turned up the pressure and dropped Holt with a crushing right hand. Peterson would score another knockdown in the sixth round, as it was obvious that the end was near.

Referee Tony Weeks would wisely stop the action 1 minute and 42 seconds into the eighth round as Holt was taking punishment along the ropes.

Watching the action from his home base in Indio, California, trainer Joel Diaz seemed impressed with Peterson.

On Tuesday, Floyd Mayweather once again captured the attention of the boxing world when it was revealed that he had inked a record-breaking six-fight deal with Showtime PPV.

Coming in hand with the announcement was the confirmation of interim WBC welterweight champion Robert Guerrero as his May 4th opponent when he steps back into the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Coming off of decision victories of two bruising welterweights in Andre Berto and Selcuk Aydin, Guerrero will figure to give Mayweather a spirited battle despite the heavy odds that will see him as the underdog.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes in Las Vegas, Mayweather’s camp is already taking shape.

Having walked away from the sport following a ten-round unanimous decision over journeyman Javier Francisco Mendez in Reno, Nevada in May of 1999, making the move to a full-time trainer was an easy transition for Roger.
